Description: Hemi Track II (the partner to Hemi Track I) echoes the rhythm and atmosphere of Waikanae’s Hemi Matenga Reserve — a place where filtered light, dense foliage, and layered textures slow time and sharpen the senses. This sculptural work is composed of long, hand-painted fabric strips, suspended in loose intervals to create a gentle downward flow.
Using a palette of deep greens, muted golds, black, violet, and soft blues, the painting evokes natural forms: the shadow of tī kōuka fronds, tree bark, walking tracks, and glimpses of sky. The strips move subtly in the air, animating the wall with soft movement and quiet energy.
Like a forest track that leads both outward and inward, the piece suggests memory, stillness, and motion held in balance.
